Drive line vibration

My EF Falcon has a drive line vibration or more like a harmonic at speeds between 90 & 100 kph ,I noticed it this week on a trip to Queensland ,the car was loaded up 4 people plus luggage .It disappeared in NSW at 110 kph.
It is especially noticeable under load. Has any one had the same with their EF Falcon

Re: Drive line vibration

Hi mate
I've seen a few with worn yokes or universal joints that caused this vibration on anything from EA to AU. Oh, and one with a bent axle shaft (a bit of a headache to find that was). Also, damaged tyres and rims have a similar effect when fitted in the rear.

Re: Drive line vibration

Thanks Backlash1 for the reply .It will give me a place to start.
I thought it could be a uni-joint or wheel bearing.
When you say worn yoke , do you mean the bore in the yoke where the needle bearing cup fits or the spline in the yoke?
Thanks again for the info

Re: Drive line vibration

Hi mate
Sorry, didn't explain myself properly. The yoke I'm talking about is the one that goes into your gearbox (slip yoke). There's also the possibility that said yoke is ok but the bearing on the extension housing is worn. It'll have the same effect. Check your bearings for play just to be sure but I'd say if they were the cause of that vibration you describe they'll be very noisey. cheers

Re: Drive line vibration

Are you using remoulded or retreaded tyres?

I had remoulds on my car and at 105ish kms they would vibrate the car pretty badly.

Re: Drive line vibration

Possibly your universal joints could be worn, the angle of the prop shaft to diff is different when loaded and will cause vibration at different speeds to when unloaded. Unloaded the speed may be higher than you travel at and so does not show up
