E series motor diferences ?

My El is about to hit 600klm and the motor is rattly on start up so I wonder about dropping an excelent eb motor into the car , apart from manifolds what else needs a change , will the el cam fit ? and the dizzy ?

and yes I could find another motor but the eb motor is somewhat modified and runs extremely well ( and I got it cheap)

Thanks guys

Don't know about EB into EL but EL engine into EB can be done but your aircon won't work or so I've been told (I had the reverse problem). One thing about the EB heads though and that is that they seem to be bad for corrosion damage (I've gone through two in four years
Rattly on start up is pretty normal assuming it goes away may just mean that the hydraulic lifters are on their way out...fairly cheap to fix

Re: E series motor diferences ?

Atec,
i have had few E-series through that were rattly on start up.
Normally its top end. Pull the rocker gear off it, spend some time over a few jars and clean it all, esp the oil galleries in the the rocker bars...normally fixes the rattles. after that, whack in an oil pump...these donks are good for a million or more with some tlc.

Cheers
Jas

The rattles are deep in the bottom end , rebuilt the head with vavle lash ajusters about 40k ago . Im sure the bottom end is worn after all its still factory sealed at 597,000 k :)

I wonder why it's said the a/c wouldn't work ?
you leave the pump in the bay and bolt to the replacement motor , looking at it I dont see much difference and I suspect the eb has a latter head on it anyway , oil preasure is a little low at 35lb hot running and 20 lb idle so rather than add a new pump I might as well swap the donk , I am thinking a rebuild and drop the el on lpg into an old Austin ( 1947) I have , the engine bay will handle it and there is a to4 in the shed :)
oh boy a new project .:)

Got things sorted out last thursday
the motor now consists of ef block , auII head with a reground cam and I did a lot of work on the oil pump and added baffles to the sump, the motors use the same dizzy to au so it all went together quite well , currently some tuning needed and a couple of waterleaks , not making the right power yet but it's just tuning , over all a good conversion but I must say the E series cars are bad to motor swap , evey damned nut and bolt across the block is so hard to get at with my size hands :)
