Exclamation EA battery discharger

Hi all. I recently purchased a late build EA. Initially I noticed it had occasional problems starting, I assumed it was the neutral safety switch as 'cycling' the T-bar made the problem stop and allow me to start up, it should be noted this wasn't a regular thing. Now its flattening the battery in several hours whilst turned off. The alternator is OK (charging at around 14/16 volts whilst running). I noticed a spark when connecting the battery and I don't hear any relays when I turn the ignition on, could this problem be a jammed/expired relay? I am short of funds and don't trust local mechanics who recently misdiagnosed a blocked breather valve on the fuel cap for a faulty fuel pump. I am reasonably mechanically savvy and need you help with suggestions. The EA is great, but at times like this I miss my XE ESP.

Thanks in advance, Jason

Re: EA battery discharger

Check the boot light! Seen it time and time again.

Then, connect the battery and pull all the fuses. Test each circuit in turn to see where the current drain is occuring. Then go hunting.

Re: EA battery discharger

Thx FB98, it ended up being the powersteering pump leaking onto the alternator, building up gunk and causing one of the diodes in the bridge rectifier ('diode pack') to cook its self.
