My EA Falcon has deleloped a problem.

When cold 1st thing in the morning the car will start.
After about 3 minutes the motor just stops!
The batery is strong , and the starter motor turns over fine.
During the day, the car will just not start
Next morning , same thing, it starts and then fails.

Have replaced full distributor, coil. (no change, same problem.)

Have checked the fuel line, when ignition is turned on, it pumps fuel.
Checked spark at plug, no spark.

Any ideas ??????????? Would appreciate some help, driving me mad.

Did you replace the TFI module when you replaced the distributor? These can give heat related problems....

If you have some way of cooling the TFI after is has run or warming it before trying to start in the morning you might be able to pin point it. Not sure how you would do it though (ice water or hair dryer/heat gun?)

Thanks for answering my question., much appreciated.

i did replace the tfi module when installing the distributor.

I have now replaced the distributor and coil, and the car does not start at all now!@@@

Will probably have to take it to get a diagonistic check.., $ 120.00 aust.

Appreciate your advice.

Change the fuel filter and check for contaminates when you take the old one off (dirty fuel or temporary blockage of pick up pipe). Also see if it starts and keeps running with fuel cap off (blocked vent in cap - can make it hard for pump to pressurise system.

sure is a saga these ea's, lots of things to go wrong !!!

not the EA, just older cars, things go wrong.

When you do get it to start, can it rev up, or does it just die.

Is it a MPFI or CFI, dodgy fuel pump relay maybe.

Appreciate all the help.

Looks like the first s/h distributor i bought was a dud.

Bought another complete s/h distributor. $ 55., installed it., worked fine.!!!

Looking back on the problem, i believe that if the map sensor inside the distributor is dud, when you just change the the external module, the dud map sensor wrecks the other module.

Sorry for the fuss, and appreciate all the help offered.

No MAP sensor inside the dizzy....it's mounted on the firewall somewhere
