A little while ago I posted a thread about my car having terrible starting problems, blowing black smoke out the back, even though every possible component was changed or replaced. I have solved the problem! Pressure regulator was absolutely knackered. Put a fuel pressure guage in the lines, powered the pump, crimped the lines and the pressure did not increase one bit. Cut the thing apart and found the spring broken in three places. So, I changed the pressure reg, and she starts much better now. I think the fuel pump is a little worn also, but now i don't have it farting and spluttering when I start up and gas every poor citizen out......

did the smoke only come out on start up or continue after blowing smoke when driving? i got a prob like this but mine only does it on startup

Ah yeah gidday,

What colour smoke? you have 3 flavours - white, blue or black. White is water related, blue is oil related and black is fuel related.

If it is blue and only on startup, possibly valve stem seals, not a big cause for concern until it starts to foul the plugs, and this may not happen for a few thou k's.
