Shorter diff ratio in the EB and if the engine in their car is the 4.0MPI it will be 148kW vs the 120kW in yours. These two factors would be the main reason their car is quicker off the mark. Also take into account things like how many K's each car has travelled.
yeah the 4.0i has a better cam, MPFI will make a fairly big difference also..but yeah mostly the diff ratio i'd say..engine and trans condition can play a big part of it too
my mates EAII CFi used to be quicker than my Cfi even when he was running on LPG - my trans was stuffed, replaced it with a 3 speeder and now theyre about even

Thanks guys, yeah engine km not a worry they are about 2000kms apart.
My parents have about a year old rebuilt 4 speed gear box, im still on my cars original, which is not in the best shape as gear changes can be felt most of the time.
Didnt think of the better cam.

if memory serves me right, i believe the EA CFI motors produced the same as the MPFI... 133 KW's each...
was overseas for 8 years and my only link to ford australia was a EA catalogue with all the EA spec's that i held dear...

Unless that is a replacement engine it's actually a 3.9
EB series 1's wern't all that different from an EA, it was the EB series 2 that was a huge step forward (when the 4.0 148kw engine was actually introduced, in mid 92).
