Now you compare a car with technology that's 8 years older.
Gear ratios are aslo set out differently different.
Newer cars have some more go in them so the ECU allows for a better, more responsive kickdown.
There's my two bob
All BTR 4 -speed autos have the same ratios mate, from EAII-BA.

Re: EA vs EF Kickdown - whats the deal

well im guessing the new BA are much better than the very 1st of the ea series 2 ones...

i agree with peteseb as i know what your talking about the 60km business if u want kickdown flaten the pedal at around 45-50km where it pops into 1st at about 3-3.5k

Re: EA vs EF Kickdown - whats the deal

My 3 speed cfi EA will kickdown to first at 60 km/h or below and will hold first until 75 or so in drive. Butn from about 68 onwards it doesnt really accelerate at all in first.

Is your EA a 3 or 4 speed?

4 Speed Autos dont have kickdown cable.

Also BA's have slightly different ratios than EAII-AUIII

Re: EA vs EF Kickdown - whats the deal

Mines a 4 speed Auto, and I have replaced the accelerator cable not too long ago.

I took her for a test drive tonight, and manually shift the gears using the gear shifter, and the acceleration it shiteloads better when I do that, then depending on the gay kickdown. So either the problem is the TPS module for the auto is dodgy or the EA's have gay kickdown.
