i got cought the other day when the trip computer said 120k to go till empty and i had nearly a 1/4 tank anyways hesitates and dies do the old 5litre can job and get going again im just wondering? is this normal on the eb's just from old age or what?

Pull the cluster out, open it up and move the guage with your finger to free it up a bit. Fixed mine...

it cant be that it has to be a sender i reckon because the trip computer reckoned i had 120k's to empty when it died

Yep could be. The guage flick idea is a quick simple one to try. But from your info about it would seem a issue with the sender.
