Re: EB trip comp not working with EL ECU
To do the code conversion one would need to know the format and info the 2 digit code is carrying into the ED tripcomp and the format and info the 4 digit code is carrying.
For example, a 2 digit binary code can have 4 combinations but only 3 of these would be data. A 4 digit binary code can have 16 combinations where 15 of these would be data.
The above is for a simple binary code. If it uses Hex or octal codes then there would be thousands of combos.
There would be many methods of tranferring the info and one would need to understand the structure and format of the coding and the info transfer.
The EA-ED uses the pin 34 data wire only for fuel info to the tripcomp.
The EF/EL uses the data (pin 34 in the EL as well) wire to carry temperature gauge, speed and maybe some other info to the instruments, tripcomp and climate control.
A converter, regardless, would most likely need to be processor based which reads the codes and decides what to convert them into and then output the correct codes.
Anyone know anyone at VDO who could provide the code format and structure ?
BTW, I was thinking of trying to install the EL tripcomp electronics into an ED tripcomp housing. Anyone tried that ??
