Hey guys can anyone help me out? I have a loud whissling sound coming from inside my straight 6 eb engine starts happening at about 3200rpm and stops when changing gears then kicks in again at 3200rpm?
Can annoying give me some advice to what this maybe be and what i have to do to stop it?

G'day,
if its the whistle i think it is, then its transmission.

Firstly...to stop it doing it, start by not revving it so hard.

Scary thing is my mums EA series 2 (4 speed auto) also whistles. My Series 1 Eb also did it just before shitting itself.

The major difference between both cars is that my EB tranny was already slipping, whereas mums EA is not. My EB is currently off the road, awaiting two tires, wheel align and full service....i have replaced the tranny....it was DEAD after 375,000 km.

This whistle is not mentioned in any of the books, and would love to compare it to the whistle my mums has.

I guess the ONLY advice i could give is to start with a full tranny flush and band adjustment.....which is where i will starting on mums...once i get mine back on the road.

I don't think it is the transmission and I wouldn't think 3200 is hard reving.

The wistle sounds like a vacuum leak. Try and see if you can get it to do it while stationary. Listen for it. Or coast the car at 60 put in neutral and rev to approx 3200. Try an locate the area it is coming from.

thanks guys thing is i have just put a brand new tranny in the thing so it could not be that. thanks mate ill get under and check the vacuum out good idea didnt think of it thanks guys

Well,
your post got me thinking....tested mums pretty heavily.

Cannot be vacuum leak to the tranny....they don't have a vaccuum to the tranny.

Got under mums today, and found a hole in the catalytic...welded it up, but haven't checked it yet......if that fixes it, then mine is next.....haven't looked for the noise since replacing the tranny....only driven it in and out of the workshop as i still need two tires and an alignment....toomany customer cars.

Expensive way to find out the noise isn't from the trans!

Good luck finding the leak, some can be a pain!

i had small crack in muffler and that whistled for a while then a sic as whoosh noise kinda like the blow off's started
