Hey guys,

I need to know how to tell the difference between 3spd and 4spd EA ECU's. Also, does anyone know ANY way of avoiding changing the ECU over when going from a 4spd to T5? The multipoint ECU's are as rare as out here!

Try a 3.9 3 speed.

Oh and the only way would be to use the part number to identify it. CFI has CFI written on it. If you found one with 87DA as the first few numbers, it will probably be a 3 speed.

My ECU has 87DA on and the other one I have found has 90DA on it. Could my car already have a 3spd computer in it?

Hmm I dunno, I have one and its 90DA for a 3.9 4 speed auto sedan. My CFI one was a 87DA from an EA1. I guess ringing ford and asking? Also someone on the forums might have access to that information
