Exclamation ED shock replacement!

Heres the story!

I have ED Fairmont All 4 shocks are leaking and I need to replace them!

What would you people recommend?
The places I have sourced are Supercheap and Monroe.
The quote from
Monroe- $625 installed for GT gas shocks
Supercheap- 250 for the Gabriel gas ryder front and back. Installation was another $220 at midas which joins onto supercheap.

The supercheap guy also told me I could buy a lower Gabriel shock for about the same price! I guess a lower shock would make the car lower?

Do u guys think these prices are fare?
Do any of you know much about the US Gabriel shocks? Are they any good?
Are the Monroes worth the extra money,
Is there another brand I should look at for both value and ride!

Thanks

Re: ED shock replacement!

ive got monroe gt gas with pedders springs she rides pretty well.

I havnt heard too many good things bout the gabriels performance wise but i spose depends what ya want it for.

If you do go for pedders ive found that it a s#!t load cheaper to get someone other than pedders to install them. eg.. $800 for shocks and springs from a performance joint and between $1200- $1500 from pedders!!!

Hope i was some help

Re: ED shock replacement!

Do you think about 650 for the Gas GT installed is a good price? I was hoping to get low spring put on too, but i dont have the money because im studying. I guess springs will have to wait!

Will the GT gas alone improve my cars handling?

yes thats cheap enough very fair. if your shocks are leaking you should notice a difference. bounce your car and see how long it takes to stop bouncing. if you want springs hang out as there is no extra labour for them to be fitted when putting struts in. otherwise you will have to pay the labour again

Re: ED shock replacement!

Ok would would you people recommend?
Keeping in mind im after a shock that would give me better handling with out changing the springs just yet!

GT monroe set of 4 installed $600
Super Cheap auto- Gabriel Gas ryder shortened shock set of 4 $250 about 470 installed
Or Pedders sports Ryders for about $650 installed! Comfort gas are about 600 i think

Wot are your throughs and recommendations on the above?

Re: ED shock replacement!

you cant get shorter shocks/struts without changing springs.i think.and dont get someone to install them do it yourself just get the srings compressed into the new shocks

Re: ED shock replacement!

buy the shocks and fit them your self

if you dont know how , purchase a gregorys( or simular ) workshop manual $40 and then just follow the instructions
shocks are not rocket science and the average joe with a basic tool kit can do it at home dont get me wrong but i buy munroe gt gas at about $100 a pair ($150 for struts) thats $250 parts and its only 2 hrs or so to fit all 4

hmmmm something to think about

Re: ED shock replacement!

But dont the springs need to be compressed, which requires a spring compressor? SO 250 for all 4 shocks monroe GT shocks! If thats the case might just buy them my self then shop around for installation prices or get a mate to give me a hand! Thanks for the help!
