hi i'm new to the car and to the forum:) just bought an ef futura wagon, like most people i have spoken to the air inlet has split due to an lpg backfire:( i took the car to an lpg specialest and he told me to get rid of the ef air intake tube and fit a ba air intake tube i have two questions one, has anyone done or had this conversion done and two, how can i minimise backfire from the lpg system all help would be greatly appreciated

I'm not sure what he's on about regarding the BA intake tube, but you could get an EL intake tube (tubes? It might be more than one piece) instead. I believe that you can get a valve fitted (non return valve?) which stops any backfiring from causing damage to your intake setup. In other words it only allows flow IN to the engine from the intake, not OUT.

Now if only I could have a non-return-valve after a night of heavy drinking...

I think this sort of thing has been on here before.
The problem lies in the quality of LPG available.

Simplest solution i saw was a simple 'blow off' valve so if it did it again, the valve would open and your air tube or air box would be saved.

This is a huge problem on LPG patrols, they really seem to suffer.

I don't know who mooted it, but i certainly saw it in these forums...try in General Tech.

easiest way is to get bathplug from hardware store and put on a small piece of chain. drill hole in airbox to suit and tie chain to suitable point so if you get a backfire bathplug will blow out not your airbox, chain is there so you can find the dam thing afterwards :)

Or maybe an extremely low pressure BOV... so when you backfire you get the fooly sik PSCHH!
