EF crankshaft thrust washer

Well I am still driving my EF around with 4.5mm endfloat in my crankshaft. And yes I had to pack some of the 6 pulleys in the forward position.

Obviously, from past forums it appears that the thrust washer or washers on the crankshaft are worn, broken or missing.

If I were to replace them ..would I be able to do it without removing the engine from the car. Has anyone heard or the problem happening?

Re: EF crankshaft thrust washer

to do it engine in, means you need to drop the k-frame.\

If its that badly worn, then you are possibly up for a crank grind.

I have seen worse that ran fine...these things are getting super cheap, and i think it is questionable as to whether its actually worth spending the money.\

Cheers

Re: EF crankshaft thrust washer

I was just told the other day that this is a problem with these models if an auto and used for towing, apparently the torque converter is supposed to expand when hot which causes the thrust bearing to chew out? don't know if its true or not.

Re: EF crankshaft thrust washer

bushbuggy...thanks for the comments...as I have been known to do a lot of towing and heavy towing may I add in my auto EF. If this explains why the thrust bearing is worn out then sounds logical.

So you are saying the torque convertor gets hot and expands and this somehow pushes the crankshaft in the forward position. Can anyone elaborate on this assumption? Sound bloody good logic, but just cannot see how a hot convertor pushes the crankshaft forward. I may have to have a look in a manual.
