Out of curiosity, do any warning signals turn up? for instance does the economy button light up? Because it sounds like the car is going into limp mode, which pretty much means its flooding the engine with fuel to keep it alive but there is loss of power when u hit the accelerator! If so it may be a computer problem, with my ef it was a fault chip, and solving the problem was as simple as taking it out when the car is off.
just a suggestion, it may be way off!
