EL Ghia or EL XR6, little help and suggestions? - Ford Forums

Okay, a little into the future i will be purchasing one of these cars and atm i can't make a definite decision

....
It's either an I6 EL ghia, with full leather and maybe factory sunroof or an 5spd EL xr6 with the full body kit on it... While being on the look out i have seen the EL ghia's going from 8k to 14 for the immaculates.. how ever i have only been looking on the internet, while the XR6's go for roughly 10-14k...

Can some people name the prices they have seen... and maybe help me out in what is the better car? I understand that the ghia is luxury/style and the xr6 perfomance.. The ghia would be set-up in a luxury/street/perfomance way and the XR6 in perfomance way.

So which is the better car?
Does the XR6 come with lsd (i know the ghia does :D)

Sorry about the long post people... any help and in-put id apreciate it!

hmmm tough choice
u see alot of people putting xr6 fronts on there falcons and a lot of people moding there interiors with leather etc.
u want to look at it in the long run ,i suppose the ghia has all the fruits but when they stuff up they can cost a bit,but u hardly have anythng with the xr except the motor and body kit. not to mention but if im correct the ghia will have the tickford motor in it and its not hard to slip a manual in the ghia either.
if i were u id go the ghia ,its got all the fruits ,the tickford motor(i think) and will be a nicer car to drive.and both cars have lsd's ,thats if the ghia has the tickford motor

Yes the ghia has the tickford motor which is a whole kilowatt underpowered to the XR6 :D

I look at it the same way as you but the XR6 has the whole menacing look to it...
While the ghia has all the little luxury points.

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago when chosing between an EF Gli or getting a model down but a fairmont for the same price and kms. In the end i got the fairmont and never looked back! I would defently recomend the firmont ghia over the xr which is basicaly the base model options + plus a few things like shocks ect!

Go the ghia, you can always get a manual conversion. Insurance is also cheaper on a ghia compared to the xr.

Go the fairmont!
more extras for your green...
then mod to go jus as fast as xr6 or quicker!
my current car is a great example..
Gone from standard I6 4 speed auto 6 cylinder EF Fairmont white
16.5 sec quarter to 15.0 at 93.97
with these mods..
T5 conversion
Heavy duty clutch
Xr6 cylinder head conversion
Port and polish
Cold air intake
Extractors, 2.5 inch exhaust..

And thats not even touching the computer or changing the diff from the 3.08 to an 3.45 lsd! Better Quater times ahead for sure.. Go the granpa car!

damn, mixed preferances... id love to go the ghia but the ghia needs some interior touch ups! Steering wheel <... As much as it sounds like no biggie, there aren't many wheels which will suit it, one of which will is the FBT/GT wheel retail $1000au :o...

It's a hard decision because both cars are very diferent Luxury vs Sport, it is still a fair way away from purchasing so im sure i would have came to an decision by then... but now how i see it is.. i will purchase what ever comes to me first in good cond and at a reasonable price!

i just read the cars people who responded own.... fairmont,fairmont,fairmont... :>
And here i am with my lill old base speck falcon.... THe XR has the looks, the body kit, just over all toughness.. ... My next car will be an El Xr. The EL fairmont ghia was worth way more than the el xr from new.... Look at the cost of the cars now.. The El xR will hold its value for longer.. but of course depends on condition
El xR6/8's can still pull 15k+ easly... not may fairmont ghia's still do, this has to do with the popularty of the cars though

mate look on ebay there is always steering wheels goin on the there,u could fit anything from the au range to ef . most go for around $300.
