Re: EL Manifold on EA

mmm looks good! :)
POD is a bit close to the intake manifold though, that would get fiarly hot.

Re: EL Manifold on EA

Good stuff That pod won't be too effective though because it will be sucking hot air the whole time

Re: EL Manifold on EA

I have been thinking that extending the length of piping so the pod filter is closer to cool air, or even cold air dams to channel and force the air in, even though they are illegal. The gains are remarkable, really noticable, probably the best mod that anyone could do, except the price kills the excitement a bit.

Re: EL Manifold on EA

Did you expand the ports an the EA head? I'm looking at doing the same but the only thing is that the size of the ports on the EA head a smaller than that on the EF intake manifold, and are too costly to get them expanded by a machinist...

Re: EL Manifold on EA

The head was not machined as far as I know, but there was a few headaches around. The reason why it became an EL manifold over an EF was the A/C bracket was in the way. There were a lot of custom brackets used and the throttle cable was moved from the front of the manifold, to mid way. See my car is straight gas, so there will be a lot more problems if you are trying this mod for petrol, ie position of injectors and too small ports on the EA head, but the gas is a pressurised system so I didn't need to make the ports larger.

Re: EL Manifold on EA

afaik, the manafold/head gasket is the same EA/AU as they have the same part numbers. My head EA and EF manafold mated up nicely.

Re: EL Manifold on EA

Hey guys.

Well done there copscatchme, looks like it worked out well.

I did my conversion over a year ago and Im still happy with the results. It makes the car feel soo much better at those low rpm.

Here is a pic of mine the week I finished it... a few things have changed since then tho.

I'd advise you to do something about that pod filter ASAP. The EF air box is actually not too bad, and you may find that the car will run smoother with a little air intake restriction on LPG, I know my car never like a pod with hot air while on LPG.
Since you already have the intake size reduced due to the mixer, I'd say that an EF air box would probably give you the same performance of that pod, but make it easier to get a cold air intake.

If I were you i would do the following to save you throwing out the pod.
Get an EF air box. Extend your current pod filter pipe and mount the pod inside the air box. Then run the inlet pipe from the EF box to the front of the car.

As for the inlet ports, I opened mine up... something I'd recommend to anyone thinking of running this manifold as there are a few mm difference.

Simon
