I'm about to buy a 1604 Wade regrin cam shaft to fit into my EF 4.0L I6 SOHC.
I figure that at the same time I should get osme head work done.

So first option I looked at is fitting the cam to an XR6/Tickford head and then putting that on the engine.
But I've been told it'd be more worth while for me to do the work to a normal head, get a mild port and polish, fit an AU Series II2 gasket and fit the larger Tickford/XR6 valves (I presume the exhaust valves as as far as I know the inlet ones are the same on both engines).
I dunno how much the Tickford/XR6 valves would cost. If I can get them through work (Repco), I can get a discount on them.
But, second hand Tickford/XR6 heads start at $500.
Most of the labour and that I can get cheap through the Repco workshop/mechanic thingo.

Any other opinions or options?

Xr6 exhaust port is smaller than standard and flows about 18% more or so !!!
Yes, uses bigger valve.
