I will be getting my dad's EBII

Ok, here is the deal. for my first car I am going to get my dad's 4.0L EBII which he only brought a little while ago but wants a newer car anyway so he figured he is better off letting me have it. He has just had the head reco'd and it is in pretty good condition with no major problems and 16in Ford rims of some description. Its a 4 speed auto and dual fuel.
Here is a pic of it

I was wondering what are some simple mod's I can get done to it so that it makes it OK to drive around and gives it a bit more power. I dont have much money to spend but am willing to save and I dont want enormous amounts of power. Just enough to be able to beat other falcons and commodores that would be equal to a stock EBII. I was thinking maybe getting a exhaust system put in so I can get a good sound out of it and a bit more power but I am not really technically minded (my dad and brother are mechanics) and I get my P plates in August so I dont want it to send my insurance through the roof.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Re: I will be getting my dad's EBII

nice clean looking eb there.

Advance timing to 16 degrees, and run premium. I done this to mine and it made a huge difference considering it costs nothing. I set mine from 6 to 16, and it gave it heaps more of everything. The difference in torque/power was nearly as much as my 2.5" exhaust gave me.

XH snorkel, cut the middle section out and make it into 1 hole all the way through instead of the two pipes... you do need to modify the shroud and drill a couple of holes but its easy enough. a lot better throttle response and an excellent improvement for only $35 (from ford).

U could also get an EA mpefi TB to airbox pipe, im not sure if this done much but for ~$10 u cant go wrong.

exhaust is an excellent mod, its cheap, great sound and good power/torque. it should definitly be on your cards.

ive done these mods plus a few other small ones and it kept up with a EB 5L...
