I have a ED fairmont and its due for its first service under my owner ship. Because im unsure of the cars history i want to do a full service. which is engine oil, trans oil, oil filter, plugs and leads, air filter, flush the coolent system and replace the coolent.
170 000km service
My question is am i missing anything/forgotten?
1.How do i change the transmission oil?
2.Is it worth getting a efi service and turn?
3.How often do you get that done?
4.wot does it include?
5.Do you only get it done if your car is running poorly?
6.Also how much do you think the above would cos at the machanics, including efi tune?

Any help would be great, thanks
have you looked at the belts? what about power steering flush or service? brake flush? wheel bearings? thats all i can think of at the moment.
well if auto, you have to get under the car bring the oil to operation temp then undo the bolts in a particular order, cant remember the order off my brain though sorry.
im not sure about the efi but maybe consider buying the petrol cleaners cause they clean the whole petrol system out well so they say.
and going through the mechanics can be a fortune but if you don't know how or what your doing then go through them.
ok i hoped i helped!
Hey,
My EB has just ticked over 200k and I have changed all the bushes, and am going to change all the strusts and springs. They were all original and are all shot! At about 180k I also changed the rotor button, dizzy cap and leads. I found out why my car had a rough idle...there was no carbon rod connecting the rotor button and dizzy cap!
Just a couple extra thoughts for you...
I tend to have a major service every 20,000kms, with a minor service (oil/filters change & tune up) every 10,000kms in between.
4.wot does it include?
See part 6.
5.Do you only get it done if your car is running poorly?
If it is done regularly, your car won't run poorly and will always be in optimum condition. My service intervals sound a bit lengthy, but I do a lot of easy highway kms so that's why they're 10,000km apart.
6.Also how much do you think the above would cos at the machanics, including efi tune?
Major service (oil, filters, efi tune, plugs & leads) about $150, flushing out the radiator about $60, tranny service about $130. Tranny & radiator should be done either annually or bi-annually depending on what driving conditions the car experiences. Since mine is usually on highways or open country roads, I get my tranny & radiator serviced/flushed bi-annually.

What do you do with the old plugs and leads, sell them back to the manufacturer?!?! 20k changes is a bit excessive....
I change them when I buy a car. And then forget about them. I average about 800k a week. Once I changed the plugs twice in one of my cars, but it was on gas.
Thanks for your help every one ive just booked it in for a full service and tune, im also getting the auto trans serviced too. Its going to cost me 150 for the full service and efi tune and about 130 ish for the auto.
I could of had a major service done for an extra $20 bucks the only difference is an air filter so i through i might do that bit my self.
I just figure i want my car and trans to last for heaps long and if i start getting cheap with the services it will cost me a shit load more in the future!
