can somebody tell me what cost is involved in converting my xr6 from auto to manual? it would make it a more interesting drive and not 2 mention quicker, cheers

Its a Dash out job.

Best way to go about it is to buy a conversion kit from a wrecker. You will get the pedal box, clutch cable, bell housing, a clutch (buy a newie anyway) flywheel, flywheel bolts, thrust race and throw-out lever.

You will need to buy a new spigot bearing

Its fairly simple, to do...if you are technically minded enough.

i dont know ur location but mal wood can supply a pin that bolts to the auto pedal box to hang the extra pedal. so it doesnt have to be a dash out job.

gears are different depending on what car the box comes from. early models ea, eb1 have better first gear, 3.50:1 from memory.

If you are converting to manual get the clutch pedal housing reinforced as the damn thing seems to go every 100,000 kms or so and its a dash out job that costs 3 times the labour as it does for the part. I've been told by a Ford parts bloke that it was a design fault that they never bothered to fix as it only happens at that rate. Also get the firewall reinforced around where the clutch cable comes out (another damn design fault/bad material choice)
