i have a ea 3.9 ghia 3 speed which suddenly lost reverse gear. any ideas what it could be would be greatly appreciated

I have read its a common problem amongst older model ford auto's. You could take it to a auto trans specialist, but the costs of fixing would prob be more than just getting a good 2nd hand 4spd auto from a wrecker.

Not sure on the problem, but... a 3 speed to 4 speed conversion is not fun unless you're very mechanically and electronically minded.

it could possibly broken the servo unit which you can fix in the car or its brken the band or front clutch pack diaphram spring which will be trans out
