Question POD on ed futura

Hi guys,

my car backfires sometimes, and i was recommended a pod filter for the car, coz it has somethig to do with the air intake, its a totally stock car apart from the dual fuel.
was just wondering if that would make any difference to the car.

cheers

Re: POD on ed futura

It would make the car slower because it will be drawing warm air from the engine bay, i'd have a look at either the fuel pump and filter or the timing of the car to suss out why its back firing.

Re: POD on ed futura

thx mate for ya help. ive got a new pump and filter since december, and had the odd backfire here before that. How do u check the timing?
about the pod filter, ive been getting alota mixed reviews... like i heard about it drawing in hot air, but ive also heard that it gives you a few kw's. my mate has a VX Commodore and he rekons the pod hes got on it lets his car rev easier and stuff.

cheers

Re: POD on ed futura

if you can sheild the pod from the engine it will work ok. check the timing with a timing light.

Hi
If your car is backfiring on both LPG and petrol you should be checking your ignition components, plugs, leads, distributor and coil.
Before you can accurately check the timming, your car needs to be set at base timing, either by using NGS or by grounding a pin on the grey connector that should be around the brake master cylinder. cheers

Re: POD on ed futura

hey marc,
it only backfires on lpg, whens its cold, and if i accelerate sharply of the mark. otherwise, i installed the pod and i havent really noticed a difference besieds the woosh that it makes when it sucks air in. in regards to the timing, ill probably take it to my mechanic an ask him it seems a lil' complicated for my knowledge.
thx mate

Re: POD on ed futura

Hey mate
Cars on LPG normally backfire because they're running too lean. The most common problems that will cause what you describe are the spark plugs are worn or have an excessive gap (over 0.9), the LPG converter jets are partially blocked or there's a leak on the inlet side of the engine (intake manifold gasket for example). Incorrect timing can also cause backfires but if you haven't done any engine/dissy work is very unlikely that it will be out. cheers
