hey guys,
I'm thinking of putting a high compression head to my EF (6) but the guy who's building it said I will probabily have to reprogram the chip to suit. so does anyone know who I can get to do this and how much it will cost....and no i don't want a uni-chip/any piggyback computer, they all cost too much...
thanx,
Dave.

i dont think that you will need to reprogram the chip or ecu due to having additional compression.
My brother is running a full race head on his EA (the ones they run at wanneroo raceway) , and standard ecu, thing goes like hell (read leaves his mates AU looking stupid) and doesnt ping at all.
With the EF you have the advantage of the knock sensor, this will detect any pinging, and reduce the timing to minimize it.
Ford EEC's adapt to most changes, i recommend just resetting the ecu and you should be fine.
I second that from 9psi. Nearly all falcon computers are a learning computer and they adapt to reasonable changes and driving styles. Love the Ford ecu's!
The other option is you can afford it is to get a tweecer program. Ask 9psi about that!
Tweecer's currently do not support the EEC-V in the EF's, due to the unknown locations of all the maps and functions.
I currently am not using a tweecer, but Pete (XR9UTE) will be setting me up with a modified 5.0 ecu, therefore will have full sequential injection, this will be setup and tuned using a tweecer.
Just have to convince the chikky that the $$$ are better spent on the SEFI setup rather than the wedding, so may be a while yet :)
I think he is also looking into running EDIS with this setup.
Im just running with factory ecu at the moment, no chip.
My brother is running a full race head on his EA (the ones they run at wanneroo raceway) , and standard ecu, thing goes like hell (read leaves his mates AU looking stupid) and doesnt ping at all.
Thanx guys,
I was thinking of running 11:1 compression won't this affect the mixtures??
also what's this race head you refer too??
Dave.

I know dude!!! but I mean who's it build by, how is it ported, how much bigger are the valves, what the compression, what sorta cam is he running, etc
Dave.

The capa kit uses one of their own home grown chips.
I dont know what changes they have made to the program, I think its mainly less timing and less fuel due to the bigger injectors they supplied, but i think they arent supplying chips anymore, instead they supply unichips.
I have 3 of they're chips here, but found it runs way better without any of them. (i mainly only used them for the firmer shifts, but as you all should know, theres a way around that now) I found with the chip in it was running inconsistent.
The race head, (bro works at engine reconditioning place) is an ex wanneroo race car head.
The guys that race them have the heads machined down way past the limit marks (so a good few mm) but this one required more machining to make it flat again, so they couldnt use it on the track anymore. (the rules are very strict) My bro ported it out more, and match ported the inlet manifold. Like i said it goes real well, dont know what compression its running or anything (he just slapped it on, typical young person style)
The only drama is that cause the head has been machined that much, a link needs to be taken out of the timing chain because the tensioner cant take up the slack, and its rattling (yes all new tensioners, guides and chain, only stock thing it the bottom end). If you want more details on it, let me know and i'll ask him. I dont know what valves and springs hes running in it. It has an EF/L cam in it.
Hes running an EBII diff (3.23) since he blew up the factory lsd, and 3 speed auto, which he blew up a few months ago also.
