Greetings All,
In a number of posts is the instruction to re-set the computer. Can somebody please detail how to do this on a '92 EB2 Fairmont V8 SW.
Cheers,

Re: Re-setting ECUs

Hi Rob
Ford Australia doesn't list any formal procedure in any of its Workshop Manuals for resetting genuine PCMs, except to disconnect the battery and wait for a couple of minutes. This is more than enough time to de-power the module and erase whatever learned values for different operating conditions are stored there. In the same way, all these values will be re-learned as you drive your vehicle at normal operating temp, so there's no need to follow any procedure at all. You may feel a temporay harsh shift or some hunting at idle or on deceleration but these will go away after a 10-15 minutes drive. If you want to avoid this, get the car warm, disconnect the battery, wait a couple of minutes, reconnect and start up, let it idle in N for 1-2 minutes, then put it in D for 1-2 minutes, then in D with A/C on for1-2 minutes and done.
People get all sorts of carried away and list a number of procedures that "somebody" told them to do but I can guarantee you they're a waste of time. The only real complex procedure is for Tickford dual-fuel vehicles and involves grounding a wire and following a set of instructions. If this is not fitted to your car, just disconnect and reconnect the battery. cheers

Re: Re-setting ECUs

Greetings Marc,
Glad to hear that, I have 2 workshop manuals, neither of which list a proceedure. Time, I think, for a session on a diagnostic machine.
Thanks for the prompt reply, it is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Rob.
