Re: Rev limiter for EA?

I really thought that the limiters were ignition based - leaning out injectors doesn't sound like the best method to me . . .

Re: Rev limiter for EA?

I'm almost certain that my EAII has a rev limiter at about 5500 RPM. The revs hit 5500 and you get that popping sounds as they drop down...

nah doesnt have one
doesnt matter weather im in gear or in neutral will rev to whatever i want
i think you will find that if you put the car in second or third and hold it flat, it will get to about 5500 and then hit the limiter - the car will "stutter" free-revving doesnt count because the tacho needle has its own momentum - i have seen 6000rpm plus during burnouts and wet weather driving in my car, but its limited at 5500rpm - the needle just winds past if the engine is accelerating in a hurry.

rev limiters are injector based - once the engine goes fast enough (say 5500rpm) the computer will shut the injectors completely, and the engine speed drops. once it drops a sufficient amount (say, down to 5300rpm) it starts pulsing the injectors again.

the spark is always there, because raw fuel being pumped into the exhaust is bad for emmisions, catalytic converter life etc.

you can get kits from jaycar that are rev limiters, i think they cost about $50 or something...

Re: Rev limiter for EA?

I've had mine mine bouncing off what appeared to be a limiter also in the wet it'd spin, gain traction, then kick back in and spin again. This was in a 4spd auto EA2 held in first gear on the selector...

maybe the manuals don't have the limiter or something? - although that sounds like a stupid idea if the auto has one...

Re: Rev limiter for EA?

I dont think it's just a manual thing dude, read my last post, they were both manual, one was a factory manual and the other (backyard conversion) has a manual ECU aswell

Re: Rev limiter for EA?

The EA is revlimited at 6k, ignition cut-out. Trust me I've had it up there often enough
The EB they seem to have brought it down to 5500 for some reason, again it's definitely an ignition cut-out.

Re: Rev limiter for EA?

Do you have a tacho? If not, why not fit one and then you can keep an eye on the revs- no need for a limiter then.
