confused Starting problems

Hi All,
I have an EA series 2 sedan with the 4 speed auto and the centre point injection, My problem is on some occasions, when I have been driving for about a while, or at least till the motor reaches operating temp, then park turn off the motor and then come back to it about 30 minutes to an hour or so, It has real trouble starting up,
Whe I turn the key, it starts then stalls, this goes on for about 2 to 3 minutes, some times it doesnt kick for about 10 15 tries and when it finally does, I have to play with the pedal to keep it reving or it will stall, it sputers for a while then it seems to "clear its throught and every thing is ok then, it drive very well, its only in re-starting it when it is hot or warm, when it is cold like first thing in the morning, it starts perfectly.
A ford dealer told me it was the TPS, throttle positioning sensor, which I changed ( for $100.00 ) and made no differece,
Has anyone ever heard of this problem, I really dont want to take it to a FORD dealer, because of the ridiculous cost they charge.

Regards Peter

Re: Starting problems

Sounds very similar to a prob i had with my EB centre point.
Got progressively worse over time. Noticed first a drop in mileage, then hard starting, then rougher and rougher running.

Mechanics changed, tps, map sensor, computers. Problem turned out to be a crook Coil Lead. A dying coil can do this too.

Cheers
Jas

Re: Starting problems

That was my problem for some time but I learned about the system and found the answers. One main item is the fuel pump control system. Connect a low wattage globe to the pump connector in the boot and put the globe somewhere it can be seen from the drivers seat. The sharp end of a safety pin can be pushed into the back of the connector or the pins pushed into the wires.
The pump should have power when the ignition is turned.
Search the site for starting problems.
It could also be leaking injectors flooding the engine. Pushing the accelerator to the floor when starting stops the injectors firing and should clear the engine.
Nothing has been replaced in the engine system.
