I have a 95 EF II Falcon Sedan. Lately I have been hearing a thumping noise coming from the rear of the car when I turn the motor off after driving for a 40 or so kilometers on the freeway at 110kmh. The noise happens in 1 second intervals then slowly these intervals get longer then it stops. I think it may be coming from the fuel tank. I have been having trouble with a whiny fuel pump lately and I intend to replace it shortly. Does anyone have any ideas? Are these two symptons related?

Sounds like you have a fuel tank vent problem. Have you got the right petrol cap fitted, or maybe a blocked vent hose?

Hi there i have a 90 mod falcon and had the same thing happen to me. it turned out to be a section of the fuel pump housing which had come off and was sloshing around in the tank...... dont know if it is the same but might be worth a look...
