Update on the EA

Well in the past 1 1/2 weeks I have fixed the rocker gear (cracked rocker pedistal), I have now had to change the oil pump (Fu*ked no oil pressure). Changed all the bottom end bearings once again (Fu*ked due to being starved of oil) crank is still all good and the pistons, rods & bores look fine from the bottom. Timing tensioner shattered in the timing cover, new one fitted. It is now time to do a compression test to see if there is anything wrong with the head.
It just never ends.

Yes but for the all the effort it is always worth it when the car finally fires up and you plant your foot down the street :0)

Don't want to hijack the thread, but how hard is it to change the oil pump? Does the engine have to come out to do it? My tappets are making lots of tapping noise for 2-3 seconds when I start the engine now, so I figure low oil pressure could be a culprit..

TQE, SWB, ATPS, Worst of the E-series.. and I wouldn't have it any other way

I got a engine crain undid the mount bolts and lifted the engine, then droped the sump. You can pressure test the pump by pulling the dizzy and getting a tool that you concet to a crodless drill and spin the pump to see if it brings oil to the top of the head quickly. In my case spin the pump foe 2min bofore a small amount came to the top.

2-3 seconds at start up I wouldn't be to woried about.

A ryco filter will cause that.

Well the engine is now out. In the end on Friday night after changing the timing chain and starting the b!tch I found a nice knock on 1 and 2 pistons, looks like there is damage to the gudgen pins and the piston is just hiting the head under compression. So the engine is out and sitting on the floor awaiting a price on a block and flat top over sized piston set. So rebuild here I come.
My ride at the momment is a 69 VF Valiant with a 225 slant six. Glade I didn't start striping it for the restore.
ETA on the EA looks like the end of the week Friday or Saturday.
