I own an EB V8 falcon and its standard apart from extractors and exhaust.
Whats the best chip i ca get for this engine?
I was thinking about getting a powerchip, a gold 98 one for 650 bucks and they reckon i will get around 20kws. thats a lot of power just from a chip.
Is there any other chips i can get that are cheaper and better?
any info would be appreciated.
I have seen a number of these "off the shelf" chips which actually loose power or only give 1-2kw improvements. IMO spend the $650 on some proven mods such as underdrive pullies, roller rockers etc or if you really want EEC mods then save up for a custom tuned chip or interceptor like unichip.
Actually I don't recommend any of them, IMO the factory V8 EEC is more than capable of handling most mods. There are plenty of 180rwkw+ cars running factory EEC's and some decent ford mechanics also rely on the factory EEC. In some cases they are good but for most people I would be putting the money towards other modifications.
But if you do get one, just make sure it is a realtime tuned chip like the unichip or custom tuned chiptorque.
i dont know enough about them to make an informed decision.when i was in the states (2000-2002)i was working with some aircraft techos who owned mustangs with nothing more than a high lift cam 40psi fp and a cobra "R" upper and lower 70mmtb 75mm maf and running high 12.s .no shit!stock computer and street tyres.they would drive them to the track race em and drive em home.cars were sleepers.none of them spent a fortune either just access to good bits.

Having more mods before you chip the car wouldn't be a bad idea. For my 6cyl I did the Unichip after only doing exhaust and intake. Now I have my cam I have to redo the chip to suit the cam. It adds up $$$.
There's a couple of guys who have had chips done on Ford 5L's and have had a decent results.
The APS guys seem to think theres some worthwhile gains as the development on the ford 5L's wasn't that big say compared to the boss engines so some decent gains can be made.

If you are going forced induction, you really should invest in an aftermarket computer. Chiptorque and unichip can program for around 10psi boost but IMO there are still limitations running the factory system on cars with forced induction. I tried to run the CAPA chip with my vortech but still ran into a number problems. On a stock engine I think the CAPA chip, or a chiptorque/unichip would work fine but the other mods I have along with the blower was too much for a pre-programmed chip. I elected to go aftermarket computer but probably could have gone with a unichip because it is realtime tuned.
