Hey People,

Just wondering if you's could help me out and tell me what all the differences are between the EL and EF?

Also did only EF come out in XR's or is that a lie ive been told?

Hello,

I have had both. There were cosmetic things, like the tail lights. ( the colour of the indicator ) The main mechanical difference was the EF had no distributer, the EL did. The front end was different, bonnet lights and grill. The Fairmont and XR were the same front. The EL had a different panel around the radio. Both are very good cars, and IMO much better that the earlier " E " series. ( looks and mechanical ) They are still in use as taxis, something the holden wont stand up to.

the ef xr had differnt lights to the el xr. the el xr looks better.

The lights are the same, aren't they?? The EL has a different front bar, which is actually a 2 piece unit, made up of a standard EF bar with a different top glued on.

The EL XR had a thin side mould, whereas the EF had a thick one (similar to Fairmont). Different rear suspension. Different tail lights. As above, the EF had the AU style coil packs, whereas the EL ran the EA-D dizzy. Possibly the autos changed from EF to EL as well, it was around then that they went 'dipstick-less'. There would be dozens of little things as well, plus some other big ones not mentioned.

The EL also had different rear upper control arms to decrease roll oversteer. They are available from whiteline.

EL series II XR's also came out with the upgraded 185 kw engine.
