Re: Why are we driving EA's?!

To me a car is what you make it, if you see it has a just a car and let it go to crap, makes no diff if its an EA or the latest BMW, if you see your car as a personal thing and have a bit of pride in it, then any car regardless of cost can look great if time and effort to maintain it are put in.

Re: Why are we driving EA's?!

I modified mine so it would go faster :)

Can't exactly call a 3.9 which beats 308s underpowered!
And it is totally stock internally, too, only the intake/exhaust and manual made the difference.

why becouse iam

I am driving an ea couse its a whole lotta car for the money.

I had a couple of fords in the past and was happy but they did not have the effect of proud owner ship like this one.

1988 falcon wagon with fairmont trim ,3.9 mulite point and trusty three speeder ,some funky puple ly charolely grey colour with c/codded b/bars , alloy wheels and a few flash treats , minor compared with new cars put for somthing thats near and closing 15 year old ait to bad.

I frend of mine had it as a famliy truckester which he bought of an old couple whom wanted to up date. They had it from new, that was in 96 it had 87 thosand kays on it went well every tidy , and he paid through the nose at $10,000.00 , but it severed them well and the only reason they up dated was couse of a very good profit on there sale from there home in the last two years .

The car was only used here and there and he could not sell it .. even with 10 months rego.

I was after a cheap relible work hack, so he presto a deal was done.

ive driven it around for a week and have been more than impressed.

gave it to my man of spanners and he ,s sort of said well if your going to keep it it will need this and that and a bit of care and cash.

six months later no dramas or major problems , only a blinker ,yes no , yes no canister , and i am happy .

The rebuild price came way under my thoughts away and at this presnt time its a shit hot car thats going great guns.

price list

car $2000.00 ( could of had it for 1500 but good mate two young kids a newer house to pay off , bugger it .)

power steer over haule. $500
rack $450
ball joints
wheel rotars
wheel bearings
pads
rubbers
glue
oil
fan
radiator
belts
gasket here
gasket there.
with labour $1874
tyres , yokahamas 205 $472

So all said and done $5,296.00
all said and done for bugger all i reckon come pared with a later cheapo ef el counter part , there dam fine cars but there 6 to 9 grand then fix the head aches.

This black duck esay pleased with the eas.

Re: Why are we driving EA's?!

i bought an ea as my 4th car.

i love the shape of the ea-ed cars and i always knew that they are one of the lightest modern falcons. and i always knew that i would eventually would have done it up.

and now i have done it up i can never sell it.

a ea is a cheap starting point on an absolutley wild car.
i mean with the money i have spent on mine i would have been able to buy a brand new ba xt but whats the point??

i prefer to spend money on a 3 thousand dollar car and have something that is uniqely mine and no one else will have. i know you dont get ur money back but you wouldnt get ur money back on a ba either.

you'll find most ppl on here that own a ea or eb will be the ones doing the crazy mods to their cars and/or are willing to give it a go. cos of the fact that the cost of the car is cheap.

as for the styling.... it personal opinion.. but i reckon they are still modern looking car and there plenty of mods to make them look a cut above the rest

cheers.joe.

I live close to sunshine, st albans. I will admit, there are alote of e series cars on the road that are drivin in the areas which basicaly are not very well looked after. But i know a few people from the areas. The reason they have the car is because they are not all as lucky as alote of us, and dont have big cash incomes, and a big house etc. But they have chosen a E series car basicaly because it gets them from point A to B, and that the car is spacious, so they can fit there family in there without placing someone ontop of another person. So basicaly an E series GL car is aimed at people who are not as wealthy as others, this is why alot of them own them and it basicaly fits into there life. Im shure if you were as unlucky as some people i know you would be in the same situation. You may need to go on a actual tour of sunshine, and go ask a e series owner who's car is not looked after "why dont u look after your car sir", i can asshure you that you will get a answer like "Mate, it drives me to work and picks the kids up from school". I dont think he would be worried about how his EA would looked dumped, with coded bumpers and a exuast system.

B.T.W- if i was a billionare, i would still by a base EA GL, because it gives me a hobbie to do. Learning how to wire in trip computers, upgrade to ED stuff, etc etc. I have learnt so much from my EA GL, i am never ever gona sell it.

mate if you called my ea a piece of cheap, unreliable crap to my face you would be on your backside in a second. But thats just my opinion.

As everyone else has said EA's are great, and its a shame they have such a bad reputation.

Re:

As a long time reader of this board and a personal friend of Mr Jack Travis, I was astounded to see a EA driver who had been a contributing member for so long can a decent car (for the price range) which many people on this board and outside this board love.

First of all, I would like to point out that I drive a Jap car. However, I am not a ricer. I drive a 1990 Australian deilvered Toyota MR2 (Ferrari shape) N/A, which I am completely in love with, as many of you are with your cars.
For what it's worth, I like my cars standard. I'm not into 17 inch wheels (though they can look good) and I despise body kits unless they're factory.
In fact the only "mods" that I have done are: tints, black widow alarm, new Panasonic MP3 deck, GM Quarts splits and JBL rear speakers (stereo gear yet to be installed) and a coin and cup holder console from an overseas MR2 turbo.
The only mods planned for the future are: 15 inch wheels from 1994-1999 MR2 Bathurst and GT, fix all the minor electrical problems which comprises of fixing cruise control and re-gas and service air con.
The rest of the car is staock standard.

When you look at the EA, you cannot expect it to be up to the standards of some of its competitors of the time, such as a Merc or even a Toyota Cressida. This is because the EA didn;t have as much capital injected into it as some of its competitors. Also Ford was in a bit of a fix, the decision was almost passed that the EA would be based on the Mazda 626 of the time (imagine a FWD Falcon!!!). So we should celebrate the fact that the EA you see today went ahead as a RWD chassis.

UGLY:
I have always felt that the best feature of the EA was it's styling. Very rounded for the time, smooth and apparently areodynamic. Of course the EA GL doesn;t look as good as an EA Ghia, but name a base model from any make or model that looks as good as say a mid range model.
Next time you have a drive take a look at the other cars on the road that are around the same age and tell me if you think they look better than an EA in standard form.

UNRELIABLE:
Generally speaking, Japanese car makers make the most reliable cars in the world (i.e. LExus LS400 ) However, E series cars are generally good in this respect (except for the BTR auto trans maybe) and the parts are dirt cheap. For what it's worth I was seriously considering a ED or EF XR6, until I found out that I could afford the MR2 which is a more of a sports car, more relaible (though parts will be more expensive than a Falcon) and to my eyes is THE best looking car for its time (aside from the Porsche 911).

Oversized:
if there is a problem with the size of the car, buy a Corolla. The size was one reason I didn;t buy a Falcon.

underpowered:
Compare the power figures to a car of a similar age and a similar price.
Also lets not forget how well a stock EA S MPFI with the T5 did against a fully dun up Pulsar on the drag strip. I think the EA beat it, albiet by a nose.

Sorry for the long post people, but I thought you needed an unbiased post like this one from someone who is on the outside of the club looking in and not a necessarily a Australian car enthusiast (I do respect some of them though), but rather a uni student who aspires to owning the ultimate sports car one day, the 911.

I bought my car because my old car was out of date and falling apart, being at uni still I didn't want to spend big dollars but wanted something with power and comfort.

The ED fit nicely and I got it handed to me cheap from a mate at Ford. Personally tough its cost me thousands and I can't wait to off load it and buy something newer and more reliable.

Untill then, I'll enjoy it because its got lots of my money, and I want it back!
