Is a 3 inch exhaust too big for a stock 302c ? If so what size should I go for ?

i would go 2 3/4 single myself.
i would say 3" all the way is too large though i am sure it could work

I wouldn't go bigger than a 2 1/2" single otherwise it'll be just a loud fart. Can you tell I am not a fan of single systems?

A 3" single will get you pulled over every time and it'll drone like all hell.

I am not a fan of Single Systems either. A Twin 2" probably wouldn't be too bad.

I've been reccomended to get a single 3inch over twin 2.5inch due to space restrictions on my XD. Whats the difference between them, performance wise?

Anyone who thinks a stock 302 needs a 3" single should be shot. You will regret it, if you do go single 3"? Go the single 2 1/2" you'll be happier. It's plenty for a stock 302. A twin 2" would be fine for the stock 302. A twin 2 1/2" system is good for 400-500hp engines.You don't get an exhaust for sound only. You get it because the engine mods warrant it.

If the exhaust fitter is decent you can run a twin 2" under an XD easy. You can even run the pipes out the same side just like a new Falcon or Commodore. Your exhaust fitter sounds lazy.

A stock twin 2" exhaust apart from Tri-Y extractors netted me 180rwkw and it was pretty quite too.

I should've mentioned its for a 351. I wanted a twin 2 1/2" for room to move later on. Ill probably go for twin 2 1/4.
I asked the exhaust guy if i could have the pipes come over the diff & come out under the rear guards, but he didn't like that idea.
I think he thinks I want an exhaust for sound only.
He also wants $550 for either a twin 2.5" or single 3".

XD's are difficult. If you plan to drag race? I'd suggest 2 1/2" upto just before the diff with flanges. From the flange back run either 2" or 2 1/4" pipes over the diff. That way you can remove the small tailpipes when you race

Also quietens it down on the street.

I am pretty sure a creative exhaust fitted can squeeze a twin 2 1/4" under anyway. Most fitters worry about the plastic tank. They forget it's heat/flame retardant plastic. As this is a requirement for ADR of plastic tanks. Thge likely hood of melting a tank is very unlikely. Considering the XD is still a leaf spring setup it can't be that hard can it

The other thing if my memory serves right is the tank is offset to one side. So the idea is to have both pipes popping out the same side like a new car does

Problem solved but more work for them and they don't want to know about it usually. Ask about running twin pipes in a similar fashion to the new cars. See what happens?

Never thought of that idea.

My XD has the 80L steel tank, but it also has twin cutouts below the bumper but no room to run an exhaust through the passenger side one due to the fuel tank being offset.
