BA XR6 Exhaust help needed

Hi all - im ordering a Herrods exhaust on Monday for my BA XR6 but still havnt made up my mind which to get.

1) cat-back mild steel
2) cat-back staineless
3) full system

im saving for a house at the moment (in Sydney) so moneys a little tight but with the good ole tax return i just couldnt resist. Herrods have assured me that if i go cat-back now, then the only differnce between a full system is a hi-flow cat and extracters, which can be purchased at any time in the future (when funds permit). So really the only decision i need help with is cat-back mild or cat-back stainless???

i plan to keep the car for a fair while, and am not all that concerned about the power, more about the noise (or lack of it!)

- stainless costs 50% more than mild system ($500 compared to $750), and some (unreliable sources) have suggested that stainless gives a better (quote: "sweeter") sound. is this true?, and is there any sort of weight difference??

- sweetest thing about all this is i get to keep my warranty as its fitted by ford!

any help would be appreciated!

If you plan to keep the car for a little while, than the stainless system is the way to go,really what's $250 difference, once they burn in they do tend to give a better sound as well.

Re: BA XR6 Exhaust help needed

I personallyprefer the sound of a good mild steel system, stainless sounds a bit tinny, ive had both on my xr6's and the mild gave abetter sound and lasted 5 yrs no probs.

Its your call.
How much is the difference stainless to mild?

Re: BA XR6 Exhaust help needed

I tend to agree with TIKFD6 on this one. Stainless can sound tinny.

Re: BA XR6 Exhaust help needed

If you do short trips, than go the stainless steel as the condinsation will rust the other but if not go the mild steel. But if you want to save weight than ask for Titanium(tis the stuff)
