BA XR8 quad systems

I've finally saved enough money to get a quad cat back exhaust system for my XR8.
I'm leaning towards D&T in Adeliade to do it. Full stainless cat-back for $1800. They reckon extra 15 rwkw

Just wondering what people in SA have had done, and who by....

I want MUCH more sound, and I'm a bit worried D&T wont give me enough. Any advice will be appreciated

Re: BA XR8 quad systems

Hey Wokka,

I have only a collection of opinions from various owners I have chatted to, but THE horny noise pipe is the Diphillippo 3.5". It also costs a bit cat back quad $2385 according to their Ford Performance mag ads. This pipe ( full ) is what all the faster quarter cars seem to be running. The D&T looks pure quality, and is supposed to up the power as advertised, but I have been told by one owner it was a bit too quiet. That's highly subjective, but like you if I did a pipe, I'd want it to really set off those little yappy dogs. There can be drone issues though with some systems. I'd highly recommend attending a club day or a cruise and try to listen to some other BA's, especially at 80-110k where drone could send you mad.

Cat back will give minimal HP gains. All the HP seems to be in the header and cats. The october Performance Ford had a great writeup on this area, PM me if you want a copy mailed.

Greg.

Thanks for the reply mate.

I actually had the car done today by D & T. I'd have to say I'm pretty bloody happy. Nice roar down low, but with no drone at highway speeds.
Probably not as loud up top (infact I don't think it's much louder than stock above 4000rpm), but if that's what I have to sacrifice to have a silent ride at 110km, then so be it.
Wonderfull job they did, and I think it was money well spent.
Good combination of throaty roar when I plant my foot, with the abilty to keep it quiet.
I'll be interested to see what sort of power it gets, when they dyno it next week.

Re: BA XR8 quad systems

Interesting to hear, as drone at highway speeds would be the killer...
I really like the look of their pipe. The Boss roars up top anyway, it's just too pussy down low standard.

Re: BA XR8 quad systems

I heard a rumour a while back that D&T were using Genie mufflers as their "own" custom systems.. Nothing against D&T tho... as most rumours arnt true. A single 3" woulda made some noise.. but droned a bit.. cheaper tho.. as long as your happy ... all is cool.

You know, it's funny you should say that, because the bloke there let slip that he had to order in the pipes. Interesting for exhausts that are "in-house mandrell bent".

Mind you, the muffs have D&T stamped into them. Probably done in China though

Nah, I'm happy. If you're after a conservative roar, with high quality, I'd recommend the system.

Re: BA XR8 quad systems

Its good to hear your happy with your exhaust wokkas. Im looking for an exhaust for my BA XR8 and I've heard the Difillipos are the best performers, the loudest and sound the best. As with most V8s I think the louder ones have singles and the better performance comes with a dual I think thats why the Difillipos sound and go the best cause its got the best of both worlds.

I had single on my EL and it sounded great but I think this time I want all out performance so I wanna do some research and make a few calls and see if any workshops have a full twin exhaust system with results to back them up.

Re: BA XR8 quad systems

Had the car dyno'd at D&T today (too late in the day when I had the exhaust done).... 210.6 RWKWs!!!

That's up from 193. Not bad I reckon for a cat-back auto job. Works out to around 285 at the crank.

They quoted me $1150 for a pair of Pacemaker headers, so that may be my next move. Also, they sell a flash tuner with 3 custom (in house) tunes for $1690. Same box as the CAPA unit (although $700 more), but they tell me that CAPA units only have very basic tunes. Anyone have any ideas about this?

Big thanks to Wayne from D&T for all your help and advice.
