My baby has just clicked over 2000ks and I've noticed a strange sound low in the rev range eminating I think from the exhaust. Sounds like, for want of a better word, it's f@rting. At the same time it feels doughy in the throttle response too but as you keep accelerating and revs rise the sound goes and the sensational exhaust tone comes back. Is this common? Anyone else know what I'm talking about?
Mine sometimes makes a noise like that (or like I imagine you are describing) when starting for a fraction of a second but I thought it was just the mixture etc getting sorted out, it comes from under the bonnet.
What rev range are you in when the noise happens?

Seems to be around 2000rpm in auto mode especially when just taking off so it's under load. FWIW, it doesn't sound like traditional pinging, more like a windy discharge more akin to maybe a leaking exhaust. It's very odd.....?
I had a similar noise in my EA a long time ago. After a while I discovered that the catalytic converter was breaking into pieces and flapping around inside the housing as exhaust gasses travelled by. After a while a large chunk twisted sideways & completely blocked the exhaust leaving me with about 2.5hp to play with. I ended up using a special tool (broomstick) to remove blockage and car went like a rocket. It may be illegal but it worked. Maybe you could ckeck your cat for the same symptoms.
Mine mainly affected the top end but was OK down low. Could be something totally different in yours though. In my GT-P (when it was about 3 months old) I had a computer glitch that made the engine cough and splutter at around 2500rpm under light - medium throttle load, but no unusual "f@rting" noises. Took it to dealer & it was fixed in about 30mins.
