As the title says when i got my new exhaust (2.5inch redback cat back system) put on my Falcon I6 4.0 about a yr ago, other then giving me a great note and a little more performance it also gave me backfiring (not loud bang type but low burble bang) when i accelrate hard then let my foot off throttle, any ideas what this is from and if can cause any damage to engine?
thats happened to me twice before, when i was holding it in second, (when it was an auto)...
not too sure what causes it, maybe unburnt fuel, as you are accelerating hard, and backing off quickly. thats exactly what i did when it happened to me
i think stock exhausts backfire aswell, ive heard its just that there is less room for it to be pushed out of and also it is much quieter with the stock exhaust than with an aftermarket one.
have run on g-tech.... only managed 14.65 sec @ 100.2mph, but as the speed shows, should be faster with more grip.
btw, that figure of 144.5kw was done with my throttle coming 5-6mm short of the throttle stop... only discovered this l8r, will re-run soon. expecting 150kw
It is called Over Run, and its more like a burble.
Mine has done this for years, The falcon six will do it with a good, free flowing exaust.
I have a Redbcak 2.5" system aswell, but thecar did it before this system aswell.
I back off mid throttle just to hear it.
Adzi, is your car a manual?
If so you will hear it more.
As someone else said, it is just the unburnt fuel from the Rich Ford motors.
Me too, I absolutely love it, and now I got my lukey, every time there is a hill in brissie suburbia, into second, wind down the window, and drool. Took my commowhore mate for a ride, and he was shocked by the awesome note produced when it happenes, he was literally speachless, a big compliment comming from him.
BTW, out of interest, could you get enough power in a na 351 to get flames out the exhaust? I'm goning to do up the ole family hack XE one day with a heavily worked clevo, and the sight of flames licking out the end of dual 3" pipes would look awesome.
