Best option for performance exhaust - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

hi guys! I want to get a full exhaust system on my el xr6 (extractors + zorst). I was just wondering what you all thought would be the best way to go.. JMM, Herrod, pacemakers or some other generic brand.. Would a trip to say JMM be better than my local exhaust shop?

i was at an exhaust shop the other day and a guy who worked there had 3" pipe from extractors to cat and then from the cat (ends chopped of cat and 3" pipe welded in place) to the tailpipe where it merged into 2.5".

some theroy behind it - exhaust gases are hottor, and hence most expanded at the front of an exhaust system and then cool and compress as they get further to the rear

when the 3" merges into the 2.5", it should be tapered over a length of about 13cm to reduce turbulence.

i only just picked up my 6 yesterday after having a cat-back lukey 2.5" system fitted & i couldn't be more pleased.

i'm not after (another) loud car, so initially i only wanted a tip welded on -- 'cept when i tried to get it fitted they told me my tailpipe was beginning to rust quite badly & would need replacing. they quoted me $150 for a 2nd hand (2 days old) exact replacement tailpipe with the tip fitted ('cause it's an XR6 it was fitted factory standard with a 2.5" exhaust). i then contacted the local lukey exhaust dealer who matched the other quote but with a brand new lukey tailpipe; they also quoted me $300 for the entire brand new cat-back lukey 'sports' system fitted (no headers). i went with the lukey system.

well, what can i say? i couldn't be happier. the 6 has never really sounded like a stock falcon, but now it has an extra bit o beef in it's note. it's louder, but not at all excessive (i don't sound like a freakin' boeing coming down the street like most commo drivers) but when you give it a squirt she really growls & now especially opens up at higher revs. nice & quiet for cruisin' places too.
