I just bought a 2000 ford focus with 112k miles on it. At first it was giving off a code saying the Throttle Positioning Sensor was bad, so I had it replaced at a Ford dealer. I was told that the original part is no longer available so they used a replacement throttle body. After that the problem came back, so we took it back, and they said there had been a wiring issue and they fixed it. Problem came back for a third time in less than a week, we took it back, and they fixed a pin that was loose. Today the CEL came back on, but the car was not shifting hard as it had been before, so I took it to AutoZone to see if it was the same code. They said it was a code 0420 - catalyst efficiency low bank 1, and that I need a new catalytic converter. I was wondering if the new throttle body could be causing the code? It's a little coincidental to me that my catalytic converter went bad immediately after changing the throttle body and the car is having no other issues.

Any info would be appreciated. :)

Hard to say what caused it. I'd go back to the dealer that did all of the rest and see waht they have to say.

Sometimes a PO420 can be set because of a bad downstream 02 sensor relaying the wrong information to the ECU.
