Yes i found out how they got my details. The story was that a EPA officer heard my car on a certain road at a certain time and suspected that it might not be legal. 5.00pm in peak hour traffic at 45 K's LMAO. The ute would have been doing about 1600 rpm. I received a certified notice in the mail to attend the EPA. The rest is history.

I own and race a 500 hp XW GT,but I dont drive it on the street because I have respact for the people around me.
As for the people that sell them,do you think they care people sell radar detectors, tramp rods anything money can buy, whats that got to do with it.
If someone is dump eneough to buy it and put it on there car there will always be soeone out there to take your money.
I knew I would gat a reaction.
Cheers Fox.
Well FOX i am 48 and also have 2 kids.
Do you complain to the EPA when the garbage truck comes past in the wee early hours. You can you know. And if you can pick 3 Db's then you are smarter then the tech's . The whole point of this thread was to warn others what is happening. As for driving your XW GT on the streets why would you when you can drive it on the track. I still race motor cycles and i don't ride it on the street, it is not built for that. We are talking about a car with cat's and extractors nothing else.

Re: EPA and Modified Exhaust

When I bought my cat back from Herrod I was told they meet EPA standards in Vic, worth remembering for those that are worried about the noise and the EPA...

Get a Herrod cat back, might save you time and money...

Re: EPA and Modified Exhaust

I'm not taking sides here as I'm only posting this for information purposes. The dB scale is not linear. 93 dB is twice as loud as 90 dB. 96 dB is twice as loud as 93 dB etc etc.

Hi John.
It was not the GTp that was tested. It was my XR8 Ute.I am praying that the GTp is not called up aswell.

I recieved a letter in the mail about 18 months ago regarding my AUIII XR8
ute from the EPA, it had extractors and highflow cats with 21/2" dual all the way got tested was over(96db on back off, the windsor bark) put daul resonator on back but failed again (93 on back off) change sports mufflers on front to baffled muflers (91-2db on back off) was very nice to tester and he said you pass. In all if you are in the 95+db range I think you to will recieve a letter in the mail sooner than later. my AU XR8 still is not quiet by any means(91-92db) and a decent amount louder than std. So what Im trying
to say if you are loud you stand out, I to think it is unfair.
Just remember first time you get caught no fine just have to comply to limit
second time the fines kick in, 200plus dollars then doubles every time after that .
You can blame the little jap crap cheesecutters hooning around with there 5" chromy exaust tips(fully sik)

This system might be legal in Vic but up here i can tell you it will fail. 3 cars with the same system and all 3 failed. I replaced the system with stock from cats back and it still fails. Looks like the cats might be the problem. So much for keeeping 300 rwhp any more.

Re: EPA and Modified Exhaust

The easy way to prevent all this is go and voluntarily test your car at RTA Botany. You get a certificate of the results. My AU2 XR8 Stroker flew through despite all its mods but the cold start test was a close one. I kept the certificate in the glovebox. No probs after that.

My understanding was you had to have two reports against your car in this subjective way. Only on the third are you required to present the car.

Aussie Pete,
The car is going to Botany on the 1st of DEC. This is not just a case of one car getting caught. This is about a certain type of exhaust fitted by dealers in sydney. If an EPA officer sitting in his car on the side of the road can pick 3Db as you drive past at 50K's in peak hour then we are all in trouble. LOL
