Re: EPA and Modified Exhaust

Fox, I would also like to add that engineers make the exhausts quieter because they are trying to sell the cars to family men(women too) not nessecarily people who like sports cars with that nice note. New cars are also designed for better economy rather than power. As for the noise waking you up at night..... Are you angry at the ambulance officers who rudely use their sirens while racing through the neighbourhood to save a dieing child? If you don't like the noise, wind your windows up while driving and move to the country. I own 2 very loud cars and am very proud of it!

Re: EPA and Modified Exhaust

These epa people dont like being proven wrong either, in sydney one night we got picked up in a mass round up and defect of modified cars, long story short my mates wrx got tested for Db and they had the mic right up at the zorst tip and in nsw the rule is something like 1m back and at a 45angle. Refused to let us look at the rule book and the police got the shits with my mate holding the line up (like they care we waited 3 hours for this shit) and they took the book and proved this dick wrong. And thats tight of you get knocked off for for 3 db.

If you want a loud car do it to an old one and even then you are restricted. So why do people keep doing this when they know it is illegal?
What do you do when you are driving next to a big smelly noisey truck that drones your ears off and make more pollution than a burntout comp at Clader..but that wouldn't wake anyone....

Minge, sounds as if the EPA got your TS50. They didn't did they? Maybe you should've bought them exhaust cutouts off me after all . Hey I still have them if you're interested, just put a bit of 2.5" pipe off the 3" and you're laughing.

For anyone who's interested, have a look at www.dmhperformance.com for what I'm referring to. I have the set that's on the right which is a 2.5" (with the flowtech's) for a V8, brand new. You can have your exhaust loud or quiet at a flick of a switch. PM me if interested.

Re: EPA and Modified Exhaust

Thanks every one for your comments. the point with the EPA is that the car is under 90 Db @ 4300rpm as required. But when you back off it spikes to 93Db. When the expert(lol) looked at the rest of the car searching for the chip he noticed the helix plate ( maybe it should be just the same material as the throttle body) he said what is that. I explained what it does and then he said (well that might not meet Emmission standards) . I told him i would remove it and he informed me that they want the car tested with it on for there own information. That is when i realised it was a lost cause. These people are a god onto themselves in my opion. As a side note 3 BA's were tested on that day and all 3 were over 90Db. One was over by 2 Db. As for noise, it had when tested only Cat's and the extractors. The rest of the system is the stock exhaust. The easy fix is to put the standard exhaust back and comply. But i am trying to keep as much HP as possible and still be legal. But you are all right about new cars passing. As i said we tested a brand new XR8 ute and it went 89 Db at back off. So in a couple of weeks when every thing is worn in Cat's etc i bet that that ute stock would not pass either.
As for being smarter then the tech's that is not hard. There are many people who have a passion for horse power and a unlimited budget to play with. And yes rules are rules and i understand them. Next thing we will have to all drive electric cars (Lmao).
There is more to this than i can tell on the FF. As for who's exhaust is fitted to my XR8 ute i will not say.

The whole point of this thread was to warn all the other members in sydney to watch out.

Why not have a go at the EPA they have a go at everyone they can
Hi doc,
I have no gripe with the supplier, and the dealer that supplied and fitted the exhaust is going out of there way to try and modify the system to come under the limit. As i have said before the simple fix would be to replace the whole system and that would be that. But if we do that than every other car in sydney with the same exhaust is going to be called up for testing. And i know that for a fact. We all share what we learn here on the FF, that is the piont of FF is it not. So when i have some information on how to get a great product to be legal i will let you all know.
