I've had a new 21/2" exhaust system put on my EF XR6 &
the drone at just over 2000rpm is very annoying. Anyone
had similar problems? How did you fix it?

What sort of system? I have an EF XR6 with Genie extractors and 2 1/2" exhaust and it doesn't make any drone at 2000, if I boot it a bit I get a bit of noise but normal driving it sounds pretty good...

The system is mild steel with 3 straight thru mufflers
packed with fibreglass. 2 are hotdog style,the other is
a 10 by 4 profile about 16" long. The rest is standard.
One suggestion has been to reduce pipe to 2 1/4".

Had the same problem on a 91 eb

Went and saw Barney at Barneys Exhausts at 49 Industrial Drive, Braeside 9587 5999 and he had the problem sorted out that day.

Thanks for the input, the problem has been solved. The exhaust system was replaced with a Walker 2 1/2" Sports system. This was after much discussion with fellow members and sponsors of the XR Club of SA. I live in the Riverland of SA so it was impractical to follow up Barneys. Thanks anyway.

I have a ED XR6 and I had extractors and a 2.5 inch Geni sports fitted to it.
I had the same problem as you.
I took it up to my exhaust specialist and he attached a pipe that ran off the side of the exhaust
that is about 1 metre long and and had a closed end.
It doesn't drone any more but now its not loud enough.

I have heard alot of this problem, i believe it comes down to the type of exhaust that is fitted to the vehicle coz every exhaust is different so b4 getting an exhuast it good to speak to people with the same car as yours and modified exhaust good luck guys.
