Hey all i finally found the exhuast leak in my EL I6! What made it hard to find was because the leak was under the heat sheild plate!

From what i see the exhuast manifold is made of two pieces, i can clearly see a fairly large 3mm gap between the two manifold, is there meant to be some putty or gasket there?

If so what is it called and where do i get it from?

Cost would be nice as well.

Had the same thing on my EF, i just had to tighten the bolts, but if you've got a gap that big then you are probably missing an exhaust gasket.

you mean the expansion 'joint' betwwen the two halves of the factory manifold?

i dunno what its called, theres a gap between the two exhaust manifold halves. The gap is about 3mm i think, i put a tube to the gap, and i could hear the farting noise.

So how do i go about solving this problem?

You can get a new gasket, it sits between the two parts of the Manifold.
Of you could whack in some Silicon, but if you do that make sure its Oxy sensor safe.

so when i replace the gasket between the manifolds, i obviously have to take the manifolds off the block right? Does that mean i have to get new gaskets for that block as well?

what price im looking at?

Yeah you have to take it off, if the manifold gasket is a steel one it should be ok, if its not it wouldnt hurt to whack in a new one.
