Exhaust Moisture Puffs? - Ford Forums

Hey guys.

The other day I was behind a Gen 3 SS when the guy decided to clutch second, and give her some stick(oh baby). The car took off, and as the revs got up, a huge puff of what looked like water came out of the exhaust... I thought that was pretty strange.

Two days later I was driving my. I had it running on ULP. I down geared and gave her some stick, after a few seconds I heard a sudden weird exhaust note, and when I looked in the rearview, there was a puff of moisture just like the SS did.

After this I noticed that the exhaust was a bit louder, and if anything, the car was going better.

I have not been able to figure out how this is possible. I have a brand-new hi flow exhaust system, and the cat has only done about 10,000k's.

The car was warm, which means the exhaust would have been hot enough to turn the water into steam.. well I think so anyway.

I have not given the car any stick either for the last thousand k's or so.

Anyone else ever see this?
Anyone know why?

Mine does it on start up and for half an hour like a tap. i usally warm her up for 6mins or depends. then i go off.

My car seems to do it for a while after i have the engine appart, i just assumed a small ammount of moisture or condensation gets in.

if its just city kim u might find that it doesn't work as good as what u think, because it mightn't be hot enough, because longer trips are better then shorter trips on exhaust systems.
but other then that, i'm useless :(

Hey guys.

I did some closer inspections yesterday and I think the puff I saw was the internals of my CAT being dumped, rather then moisture.

The exhaust now has a changed note, it has more ting, and its a tad louder. I am not too happy about this.

The CAT must have been damaged during the cars ignition problems where the exhaust was glowing red hot.

One of the cats main duties are to turn exhaust gases into co2 & h20.. water

A combination of valve and spark timing problems caused some fule to ignite in the zorst. The entire zorst was red, up to about a foot before the first muff (half way down the car). It was at nught time, and under the car was glowing red.... sorry guys, no pics.
