Got my exhaust done yesturday, 2.5" cat back straight through finishing with a 4" Stainless Steel dump pipe. I like it, looks really good, stands out from your average falcon twin 3" exhaust, but doesn't look ricey.
I'll try to get pics up asap.
Just curious about others people setups, if the note they have is similar to mine.
At ~1200-2800 ish, she sounds really nice and deep. However, the loudness isn't very linear. Above ~3000 she loses the deepness and changes the note to something alot more engine based and not exhaust (ie. more engine intakey as opposed to deep bass from exhaust)
The note change, although not as crude as Honda's VTEC, is kinda similar. It turns from the deep bass to a more air induction noise.
Does everyone else with AU2's (or I spose anyone with similar engine) experience the same thing?
fyi, air filter going in couple days (not expecting much), then pacemakers. Then some interior pimpin'. If setup a quick page of progress pics for everyone to see the transformation.
my AU2 4.0L is exactly the same, even with resonator in place, its loud and proud until 3000 - 4000 RPM, after that its just induction noise from my pod and noise from my engine, with less exhaust noise. Its still loud, but just not AS loud.

I have to say that my AU2 XR6 is the exact same way. Has a 2.5 inch redback exhaust and sounds sweet till 3000rpm. Then can't really hear much. Getting pacemakers fitted on Thursday so I'll see how much difference it makes.
Mate's EL just got done with redback 2.5" and does the same thing. Inside the car after about 3500rpm, all you can hear is engine/induction. Standing behind it the exhaust just gets louder and louder tho. It sounds alot like a Skyline...spose the engine is sorta similar. He also has an EL XR8 snorkel and a custom pipe from the filter box we made. That may have something to do with the noise inside the car...

anyone have any recommendations for an EF auto? I want it to have a nice burble at idle but be fairly quite up until the higher rev ranges, so it doesnt drone on the highway and at cruising speeds

yes, I have noticed that falcons, even my old xf was sounding it's loudest at about 2700rpm and by 3000rpm it's gone. It's the same also with my EL, it has a 2.5in redback exhaust, and again a mates ea wagon sounds best at about 2700 by 3000-3500rpm it's gone.
My i6 fairlane was the same, deep sound from idle till about 3500rpm then the rasp noise of the exhuast gasses exiting the tips took over, altho i think it sounded awesome, just was a slug :)

Was at autosalon (was helping a friend who entered a car) and they had the Holden and Ford CAPA cars there... with those cars it was induction noise till about 4000 (just a random guess) and then the V8 exhaust came in and god they sounded good
the holden was crazy though, on the polished concrete floor it was idleing in reverse and was almost wheelspinning eg the wheels were slipping a few degrees...

No recommendations here except when you get the exhaust done, get the technician to let you listen to the exhaust notes with different types of resonators plugged in.
This is what I had done, and i chose one that had a good growl. Yep I get some drone on the highway, its just a warning that the music isnt playing loud enough.
Talk to the exhaust dude, they may have something that fits the bill in a resonator or muffler.
