I have read about a couple of differant exhaust system mods on the forums but nearly everyone agrees Herrods is the best. I have spoken to my Ford dealer and he says a lot of his customers have tried other exhaust mods (differant mufflers, cat back systems, ect) but have been unsuccessful going back to the standard system because of loss of power. It seems at this stage Herrods has the only system wether it is cats back or full system that gives more power and better sound. I am just wondering if anyone has found another system that works wether it is just a change of muffler, resinators or full system.
I have put on a cats back only system from Lambros Bros (Hi Tech) in Sydney.
Whilst the sound has become deeper on idle and whilst driving, it no longer has that great growl when you floor it but a deep V8 type sound. Personally I liked the growl of the original.
As far as performace is concerned its still a bit early to tell and then how do u feel 10 odd kws on change top of 290 anyways?
Dyno is the only way, but I feel that the xhaust plus K&n filter probably requires uni chip to reprogram the flow improvements at both ends to get real benefit
Regards
i agree with GTP ACID i got herrod cats back and bmc filter not a great deal of differnce.. i am going to herrods on friday inquire about the full exhaust and chip but i wunna know how much kw i am gunna gain before i hand over more cash...

XRFPV8, Any differance in the sound with your cats back system?
So does an after market exhaust provide any extra power...or are they all talk and no action?
I would have thought that FPV would have done their homework and provided the best matching to the engine. Maybe they are a bit quiet....but all this talk of mega bucks for a full exhaust has got to be crap doesnt it

Thats the big Question isn't it....
what do you get for your money ??? Performance or illusion
i have also been searching for conclusive answers before handing over what is a large amount of cash( for a full system)
On the gold coast only a couple of cars have had a full system done that i have been able to find out about, both XR8's. only one of the two that i know of has had a before & after dyno so far, and that car had a chip installed first and got approx 17-18kw at the wheels (chiptorque)and then had a full herrod system installed after the chip and that only put 4 kw on top, But it was supposed to make the car a lot better to drive with bottom - mid end improvement. I did not get to go for a ride though.
Some exhaust people i have been talking too say the standard system on FPV's is quite good to start with, and that it is Different from the standard XR8 system.
i also trialled a 3" single cat back system that actually lost power about 4 kw until about 5200 rpm and then made + 4 kw, it sounded good, i thought it went better but it didn't. that 3" system has been going on to XR8 's and supposedly performing ?? (i never saw a dyno chart)
That's interesting falconhell. I have a xr8 ute and have been searching for a while for a cats back system and after talking to the boys at Sunshine Ford they said there have been a few systems made up from differant exhaust shops but all have lost power except for Herrods. Anyway I will keep an eye out for your Pursuit, should look good in blood orange.
