Originally i was going to go the herrod full system, however I'm on a tighter budget now than anticipated. So to compromise I am considering just the cat back system.
Has anyone here just had the cat back system done?
What is the sound and power gain like compared to stock?
Or would it be wiser just to get the muffler changed, save up then go the full system?
I haven't had it done - but the reputation of Herrods is flawless. I'd just ask them what they reckon the improvement will be - they won't lead you on.
Also ask how much it will be to get the rest of the work done later if you get cat-back now . . .
Hi Yes i've had the Herrod system done to my Brand New XR6 see under the heading of Computer Problems the the Exhaust system the Herrod fitted sounds and looks fantastic it's also got more power.
It makes no difference which way you go. The Herrod systems are designed so the front and rear sections bolt together with the common Ford flange point/type. So, I could get the headers/cats fitted and keep the cat back stockie. Or I can go cats back only. And I can then upgrade either end to match anytime I like.
That's the beauty of the Herrod Method (TM).

I've got the Cat back system on my BA XR6, Bolts on easily, did it with a mate in less than an hour. Car revs out a little better, and fuel economy is better, but i'de b hard pressed to say it had a big difference in performance. If anything the exhaust can be a little loud around the 2000rpm mark cruising under slight load. Being a manual i simply change gear either up or down, don't know how you would go if your car was an auto though??

hi fullthrottle, i have the Herrod cats back system on my XR8 u get a little power gain and it sounds much better than the stock system, after i well get the Herrod Headers when we get over xmas.
so dont waste money on a muffler, go cats back then when you get cashed up bye the headers, do it in 2 stages...
if you live in Melbourne give Herrods a ring cats back takes 1 hour to put on.

Hey, I went and had a listen to the herrod system on a GT yesterday. My initial reaction was.. "is that all?". I gota say I wasn't blown away like I had expected. I suspect the single 3 inch pipe is taking away the pulse.
I will be going cat back with a dual 2 1/4 pipes all the way through. Will let you guys know how that works out.
