OK - I have the good ole 4.0 MPFI six under the bonnet of my Fairmont, and currently have Genie Extractors (short base), standard cat and 2.5" pipes with one Tri-Flow muffler and one Muffler type resonator, the brand is Redback.

Now the system is very quiet, almost stock quiet but much deeper in note than standard. I want to retain that deep sexy note but make it louder for more people to hear.

At the same time I don't want it to sound like an EA with a whole in the exhaust if you know what I mean!!? :s6:

So I propose I change the centre muffler to a straight through type and be done with it. Is this the best move to achieve my such desires? I have run this my me mechanic who fitted my Zorst and says we can try it, but I don't want to wast $100 finding out!

Please help, what should I do?

as far as i know it's all hit and miss.. the good thing is the fact that you got extractors on. when i had my HMs fitted, they removed the drone that i used to suffer from with my current exhaust.


also stainless pipe will give meatier/louder note because of it's inherant stiffness, but thats expensive. give the muffler a shot...

I got rid of my Genies and put a set of Mock Extractors in, the sound/note improver 200%.
