Picked up the new ute last week and the exhaust bug has bitten!
I went down to the exhaust shop, where I have had the last couple of cars done because I know and trust them.
After putting it up on the hoist to scope things out they recommended that instead of doing the cat' back thing, just to have the rear resonator taken out and two pipes welded in to join it up to the tips, or to have the centre muffler taken out and some hotdogs slapped in while the rear resi' stays put.
What does everyone think? Anyone heard anything about people doing this?

Champ, you're ging to get alot of different opinions on the cat back exhaust, the only thing i can suggest is do a search and i guarantee you'll find something, like you've said.
As for me, i have a twin 2.5 into 3 inch single system and im more than happy.
Good luck and lets us know how you go. Show us somw pics of ya ute too.
Yeah i have heard from reputable guys that the ford exhaust is a damn good setup from factory.I am considering just changing the mufflers in mine to. Pacemaker extractors an high flow cats bolt upto the standard system as well, so ya can do that without doin a whole exhaust.

UTE KILLER!! RIP. BA XR8 UTE 24/12/03 - 9/2/04
ED XR6 sedan for sale, manual, 145,000kays, green, stock standard. Good condition.
Any offer considered.
Now driving a 04 BA XR8 Manual Envi ute. Mods to come...
I dont know about the ute, but on my sedan i had the rear muffler removed. It sounded awsome at low revs and idle, but sitting on 110km on the freeway the drone was unbearable.
Depends what you want.
Im interested to know which way you go i also have been bitten by the exhaust bug for the ute.
I went the opposite way - headers and cats in front ofd a stock exhaust. Sounds schweet. Magnaflows next though!

Well today I had the front muffler removed and two hotdogs put in and I am very suprised by the result.
It produces a great note when you give it a bit, but you can't hear much of it when you are cruising. Best of all - no drone and it only cost a hundred clams!
I haven't noticed any power losses and I am more than happy with it.
Dave.

i done that about a week after i got my ute! but only lasted 3days before it was sent to Herrods for a cat back system.
it lost HEAPS of power, sounded ok on idle, but when you gave it heaps, it was crap!

I dunno how loud these dual 3 inch systems sound like but my system sounds really loud for a single sysytem, i dont know whether its the mufflers or the extra tips, but i cant imagine it being any louder.
