I have decided to get the ute going a bit quicker, getting a ss cai fitted, and also the exhaust done.
Definatley going for the Pacemaker headers and the standard cats, but what is the best from the cats back ?

In all honosty i think if u want value for money you would just replace mufflers and ressies with after markey ones ..
It's a catch 22.... I was thinking of the same thing but the stock catback system comes in 3 pieces. The Y piece, the front section and the rear section. You can't just replace the muffler and resonator with aftermarket ones unless you start cutting the original exhaust. arghhhh ...not something everyone wants to do cos the stock system is a very nicely crafted stainless steel, mandrel bent system...only trouble is it doesn't make enough noise.
cams290 can you be the first one to try the HPX catback system and let us know how good/bad it is? lol....I can't believe no one has given it a go yet, when they claim it "outperforms any other similar system under 5000RPM"...prime area of concern for the BOSS! Last time i asked it was $1100 fitted.

I know I posted it on the pacemaker thread, but I may have gotten "which muffler causes the restriction in the system" wrong. After speaking to another fellow at an exhaust shop in Perth, I am led to believe the rear resonator is the baffled unit and the centre muffler is straight through. He said he has had these exhausts completley apart and subsequently fitted a pair of fibreglass pack mufflers (Hot Dogs) in place of the resonator, get this, for around $165 fitted!! He said the note improved and was louder, and that the customer reported an increase in performance (noisy cars do seem faster though). I reckon this may be the go for those on a budget but perhaps opt for a larger 2 in, 2 out resonator instead.
There's one muffler which beats the hell out of pretty much all others. The Magnaflows. I fitted these to my AU2 XR8 and that car sounded so good the exhaust shop ended up in court for not making another customer's car sound as good! I swear by them and when/if I mod my Pursuit guess what I'm fitting!
I'd stay with twin 2.5 inch and fit the magnaflows vertically side by side then tune the backpressure and sound via the rear resonator.

well interesting you've said that cos I've had magnaflows on my previous cars and they do have a really nice deep smooth tone about them.
When I went to have the BA done I specifically asked for magnaflows but they told me that if I wanted it "loud"...magnaflows would drone the hell out of the BAs. BAs have an inherent drone about them. Only way to counter this drone was to make it quieter .

Have you heard them on an AU XR6? I wonder how they would sound.

If your system is done right u will have zero drone....
I still think most of the systems floating around for these cars are just BS...tested and proven....
